Jeff Koons

Jeff Koons was born in 1955 in York, Pennsylvania. He received his B.F.A. at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is considered to be one of the most important and influential artists of the postwar era.

His work analyzes the meaning of art in a media-saturated era, by testing the boundaries between unconventional art and mass culture. Koons’s work challenges the limits of industrial construction and has distorted the relationship of the artists, to somewhat of a cult driven by celebrities, pop culture and the global market.

His work has been labeled as Neo-Pop and Post-Pop as part of the 80s movement in reaction to the minimalism and conceptualism movement in the 70s.
